NorthRiver is a lake and golf community on Lake Tuscaloosa, on the north side of the Black Warrior River. It grew up around the private club that opened here in 1978, now called The Westerfield Club. It is an older, established neighborhood with lots of trees and rolling hills, and people love it for the water, the golf and the quiet, wooded streets.

Text me: get NorthRiver listings first Or send me a messageNorthRiver sits along the shoreline of Lake Tuscaloosa. It is one of the more established neighborhoods north of the river, with big mature trees and hilly, winding streets, so many homes have water views, wooded lots or both. The neighborhood grew around the club, which first opened as NorthRiver Yacht Club in 1978. Its golf course was first designed by Gary Player and later redone by Bob Cupp.
In 2025, a group of local West Alabama investors bought the club. Today it is The Westerfield Club, with golf, a big family pool with a water slide and splash pad, and casual and fine dining. Membership is private.
One of my favorite spots is the beautiful clock tower. When Tuscaloosa gets a rare snow day, it's our family's sledding spot of choice. Captain's Club is there too, with some of the best views of the lake in town.
